Requirements

minorThe minor in German Studies consists of 15–19 credits. Students interested in the minor may tailor their course selection according to their interest in German language, literature, and film studies. They may select literature and film courses that are offered either in English translation or in German. Three options are available:

Option I. (15–19 credits): Language, Literature, and Film

  • German Language (2 courses):
    • GER 0001
    • GER 0002
    • GER 0003
    • GER 0004*
  • Literature and Film (3 courses):
    • GER (1000–1599)*

Option II. (15 credits): Literature and Film

  • Literature and Film (5 courses):
    • GER (1000–1599)*

Option III. (19 credits): German Language

  • German Language (5 courses ALL in GERMAN):
    • GER 0001
    • GER 0002
    • GER 0003
    • GER 0004*
    • One GER 1000-level course (e.g., GER 1000, 1001, 1003, 1004, 1005)

*Please Note: GER 1000–1410 and 1518 are taught in German and GER 1500–1599 (excluding 1518) are taught in English. Students must pass GER 0004 with a minimum grade of ‘B-’ before taking any course in German taught on the German 1000-level.

Grade Requriements

A minimum QPA of 2.0 is required in each course that counts toward the minor.

Satisfactory/No Credit Option

No course that counts toward the minor can be taken on an S/NC basis unless the student receives special permission from the minor advisor.
