Goethe-Institut Testing

Goethe-Institut logo

The German Department at the University of Pittsburgh is an officially authorized testing center by the Goethe Institut. We typically offer examinations at the B1, B2, and C1 levels. These exams are designed to demonstrate proficiency in German and are recognized all over the world.

Fall 2025 Testing

Registration is open through October 30, 2025. B1, B2, and C1 testing is available for Fall 2025. Please email grmndept@pitt.edu to register and pay for the exam.

Registration Cost: 

German Capstone seminar students (unless they took the exam in spring 2025 already):  USD 20 for C1, B2, B1-level

Internal (full-time undergraduate students at the University of Pittsburgh and CMU):
B1: USD 120 (1 module: USD 60; 2 modules: USD 80; 3 modules: USD 100)
B2: USD 135 (1 module: USD 60; 2 modules: USD 80; 3 modules: USD 100)
C1: USD 150 (1 module: USD 80; 2 modules: USD 100; 3 modules: USD 120)
 
External:
B1: USD 250 (1 module: USD 120; 2 modules: USD 160; 3 modules: USD 200)
B2: USD 270 (1 module: USD 130; 2 modules: USD 180; 3 modules: USD 230)
C1: USD 300 (1 module: USD 140; 2 modules: USD 190; 3 modules: USD 230)

Exam dates:

Speaking Exam, November 14, 2025 (there is some flexibility here; times will be confirmed after registration)

Written Exam, November 15, 2025 (exact times will be confirmed after registration)
